San Francisco is a gorgeous town. Bora and I visited on a warm spring day. No clouds were in sight. While our time in San Francisco was short, we made sure to make some time to have mission burritos at La Taqueria on Mission Street and stopped by Battery Spencer for some epic views. Here's some images from the start of our California trip. Shooting medium format digital helped a bit too. :)
Are You Using Dating Apps & Sites?
If you're using dating apps/sites and have terrible match/hit rates, let's chat. I'm working on a photography-related research project and I need more people and more data.
What do I need from you?
One 5 minute call for me to learn more about you.
Two 15 minute surveys (one before and one after).
One 30 minute lifestyle photo session with me.
What do you get in return? Hopefully more matches π, but if not, you'll at least have updated images to use π.
Send me a message or email me at dan@danleephoto.com, if you are interested in participating.
Feel free to share this. Thanks!
The Medium Format Difference
Camera sensor technology has progressed to a point where, for a good chunk of years, digital has surpassed film. The latest full frame cameras boast about having over 15-stops of dynamic range. So why does Dan Lee Photo, along with most commercial studios, shoot some form of medium format digital? Color reproduction. Check out a couple of images below that were shot on our Hasselblad and Fujifilm GFX 50S.
What's exciting is that digital medium format is getting cheaper. You can find digital medium format camera bodies in the portable Fujifilm GFX 50s and Hasselblad X1D selling for only $6,500. (Note: Traditional Digital Medium Format systems like Hasselblad's H series and Phase One's IQ series starts at over $25,000.)
Are you thinking about jumping into digital medium format?
Good Day for Car Wash
I hope you've been enjoying the snow as much as I have. I love snowy days, especially for impromptu photo shoots. :)
There's one thing I can't stand about snow in New York City. Salt. It ruins cars and causes rust to form in places you can't see. It's advised that you wash your car within 10 days of any contact with salt on the roads. And in New York City, where the odds of you having a driveway is slim to none, this means you'll need to take your car to a car wash.
If you're like me you also hate these automatic car washes because of the circular micro scratches that they leave in your clear coat. There aren't too many self car washes in New York, but expect lines to be long when you find one. (Feel free to message me to find out which self car washes I use.)
Isn't it a beauty? What do you drive?
Drive safe. :)
Session Prep: Headshots
You've scheduled the headshot session. Nice! What's next?
Clothing
Some people like to wear casual, others a suit. Either of these can be great choices, but remember to wear something that you feel confident in. Its best to avoid distracting patterns or colors, as these draw attention away from your face.
Makeup
This is almost always a yes, but make sure to ask your photographer. If you have little experience with makeup a makeup artist can usually be added to your session for additional cost.
Background, Lighting, and Mood
Make sure to let your photographer know why you are taking your headshot. Is it for your business profile, acting portfolio or dance portfolio? These things will change the mood and lighting of your headshot, or rather they should. A Fortune 500 CEO or President shouldn't be shot the same way as a comedian, unless maybe they're the President of Comedy Central, but even then not really.
Questions
If you have any questions prior to your session, make sure to ask your photographer. If you have specific requirements (image ratio, , image orientation, image licensing concerns), make sure to bring them up prior to your session.
